Testimonial 2 Akzo Nobel Coatings India Private Limited (ANCIPL) has been conducting three months course on Industrial Painting for students as part of the company’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activity in association with UNNATI Foundation, an NGO pioneering in the upliftment of underprivileged children, since August 2008.
The idea was proposed by Mr. S. Ishwar, Managing Director - ANCIPL, as a CSR initiative of the company. The three month class room teaching and hands-on practical training enables the participants to acquire the basic skills required for Industrial Painting. Each batch has about 10 students, the students are taught on technical aspects of painting in classroom at UNNATI Center and practical training is conducted at AkzoNobel’s Bangalore factory. The faculty members are the Technical, HSE and Technical Service employees of Akzo Nobel Coatings India Pvt Ltd.
These students get complete exposure to the industrial painting setup in paint manufacturing, surface preparation, paint application, technical aspects of paints, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) related to paints. The highlight of this program is that it not only focuses on professional dimensions in industrial painting but also encompasses the art of living, self motivating and personality development viz. yoga, meditation and life skill training conducted by Unnati Foundation members.
All the students who successfully complete the course are given a certificate from AkzoNobel and the students are placed in reputed paint manufacturing companies or with industrial paint contractors.
Testimonial 3 Komala is working as a maid earning about Rs.3000/- per month. The sole bread winner of the family, she is managing expenses related to rent, food and clothing of her two children. Shiksha is supporting the education of her son Kiran R, studying in Class 10 and her daughter Sandhya R studying in Class 7 by paying their combined fees of Rs.3500/- each year to St Patricks. “This financial support has helped me a lot and I am really thankful for it. It helped me to avoid taking a loan at high interest rates. The money saved is going towards meeting cost of groceries. Shiksha’s activities are very useful for the poor in the society”, says Komala.
Testimonial 4 Hanumanthappa iron presses clothes for a living earning about Rs.3000/- per month. His is a family of four, including his wife, son and daughter. His wife is not earning as she is looking after their one year old daughter. Shiksha is supporting the education of his eight year old son, Pawan Kumar studying in Class 4 in Holy Shephard School since four years. It is directly paying the annual fees directly to the school. “My son should not struggle in life like me. He should study in schools and get a job. I cannot afford to pay his fees nor can I afford to take a loan. That is why this educational support means a lot to us as it will help our son progress in life”, says Hanumanthappa.
Testimonial 5 Padma is working as a domestic maid earning upto Rs.2000/- a month. She has two sons. One of her sisters and her husband died leaving behind two young children. Another sister is the sole bread winner as her husband is not earning. Shiksha is supporting the education of not just her son Shashank, but also of the children of her two sisters. Together, it is paying about Rs.6000/- per year for four children of the three sisters. Padma says that her own illiteracy made her suffer a lot and she does not want her own children and her sister’s children to work in households. She is especially thankful to Shiksha for supporting the education of children of her deceased sister. The financial aid has given her moral support. “Shiksha is helping me a lot, I am feeling happy. I now feel hopeful that the children will have a better future.”
